ZEELAND - With the Aug. 3 Republican primary election just around the corner, our state’s business community is uniting behind former State Rep. Bill Huizenga in his campaign for Congress in Michigan’s 2nd district.
That became even more apparent Thursday when the Friends of West Michigan Business, the political action committee of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, formally endorsed Huizenga for Congress.

ZEELAND - Today I’m announcing my enthusiastic support for Congressman Peter Hoekstra’s campaign to become the next governor of Michigan.

On the Estate (or Death) Tax
For years, Republicans in Congress have been fighting for the permanent repeal of the federal estate tax, which is commonly referred to as the “death tax.”
We thought that goal was on its way to becoming a reality when former President Bush signed a law gradually increasing the size of estates that can be exempted from the death tax. That exemption topped out at $3.5 million in 2009, and there is no federal tax on estates in 2010.

Hansen, Booher endorse Huizenga for Congress
Former State Rep. Bill Huizenga continued to build momentum in his campaign for Congress today by picking up the endorsements of two veteran West Michigan lawmakers.
State Rep. Goeff Hansen (R-Hart) and State Rep. Darwin Booher (R-Evart) both announced their support for Huizenga in Michigan’s 2nd Congressional district race. Hansen and Booher are both wrapping up their third and final terms in the state House and are both candidates for the state Senate.
“The people of the 2nd Congressional district would be well-served by having Bill Huizenga representing them in the U.S. Congress,” said Hansen, who represents the 100th state House district and is seeking the 34th state Senate seat currently held by term-limited Sen. Gerald Van Woerkom.

Debt-Ridden European Nations May Foreshadow Future For U.S.
I don’t enjoy being the bearer of frightening news, but in this case I feel it’s very important.
As we all know, our federal government is reeling in debt, with our percentage of debt to gross national product getting dangerously closer all the time. That’s a recipe for short and long-term economic disaster, if we don’t move quickly to pay down our debt and improve our credit standing with the world’s financial institutions.
We received a warning of how things might turn out this week, when Greece, a European nation riddled with debt, had its credit rating dropped and desperately sought emergency loans from the German government, and other sources, to avoid financial default.

Huizenga Vows to Work to Overturn the Democrats’ Health Care Mistake
As expected, the U.S. House voted Sunday to approve a federal takeover of the American health care system, despite the overwhelming objections of the American people.
Next January, if I have the honor of becoming your next congressman, I pledge to work with other Republicans and other like-minded colleagues to repeal this intrusive, unconstitional legislation, and begin an effort to enact common sense reforms that will lower the price of health care for all Americans.

Huizenga joins thousands of national leaders in signing the historic “Mount Vernon Statement”
Yesterday I enthusiastically added my signature to the “Mount Vernon Statement,” a sweeping document that reaffirms the conservative principles of government as outlined by the founding fathers in our federal Constitution.
The statement is an outgrowth of the work of the Conservative Action Project, an effort led by former Attorney General Edwin Meese to help conservative leaders throughout the nation work together toward common goals.
I’m proud to be the first candidate in the 2nd Congressional district race to subscribe to the principles spelled out in this important document. I hope the other candidates will join me and thousands of others who are have already signed it.
