It’s an exciting day and I wanted you to be among the first to know. Today, I am officially announcing that I am running to have the honor of representing West Michigan in Congress!
My platform is simple: create jobs, cut spending, and protect life.
- Create Jobs: West Michigan has developed a recipe for success by embracing the value of hard work and fostering private-sector innovation, not relying on government. Washington needs to take a page out of West Michigan’s playbook. Enough with the over-regulation and push for higher taxes. Those policies don’t foster job growth, they destroy it. This is why I have consistently supported legislation to get Washington out of our wallets and our daily lives.
- Cut Spending: As conservatives we must unify and push harder to get our nation’s fiscal house in order. Not only is our national debt unsustainable, it’s unacceptable. This is why, as a founding member of the Balanced Budget Caucus, I continue to fight for adding a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. To cut spending, we must also shrink the size of government. That is why I have authored the largest cut to the IRS’s budget to have ever pass the House of Representatives. Moving forward, we must have honest conversation about the mandatory spending programs that drive our debt and what that means for our nation’s future.
- Protect Life: We must also continue to protect and fight for the most vulnerable among us, which is why I am proud to have been a vocal leader in the historic effort to defund Planned Parenthood. This was the first time in the history of Congress that legislation to defund Planned Parenthood has been put on a President’s desk. I also supported the effort to override President Obama’s veto of this critical legislation. Protecting the sanctity of life is a prime example of why we need a champion for the unborn in the White House.
2016 is shaping up to be one of the most memorable elections in our lifetime. We have seen the damage that can be done by a President who doesn’t respect the Constitution. We cannot afford our next President to be someone who will merely act as an extension of President Obama’s failed economic policies and unconstitutional agenda. Equally, we cannot afford a socialist agenda that runs counter to the values and principles that have made West Michigan such a special place.
Today, I am asking for your vote, your support, and to stand with me to promote the commonsense values that have made West Michigan the best place to live, work, and raise a family in America.
Thank you for your support,
